Some credible writing tips

It may sound simple to 'use the right word' but it's not. I'll give an example:

The room was tiny, one porthole window smudged to blackness by ash and dirt.

Ben couldn't breathe when he stepped through the door. His heart raced, his eyes darted to the smudged porthole window. The claustrophobic room moved in on him, crushed him.

Okay, the first example used tiny, but tiny isn't enough to give a sense of the room, or why it feels tiny. tiny to one may not be tiny to another, but if I write claustrophobic, that's the character showing his sense of how the space feels to him. It's not a static description, it's not separate from the character.

Find the right word, in that situation, for that character.

Oh, and take all the other tips as the same type of tip: the tip of the iceberg. and have fun.

I agree with the commenter, so far as Tip 11 is the most important.
